Command Work Products - Decisions & Directives

Decisions & Directives

Key Decisions and Directives are developed and provided by the Incident Commander (IC) or Unified Command (UC) to help provide direction to the Incident Management Team (IMT) based on the incident. Decisions and Directives can be documented on the Forms 202 or 202A.

Example Decisions & Directives

  • Identify makeup of UC - Organizations/agencies that need to be represented in UC to accomplish objectives.

. Name the incident.

. Identify the overall response organization, including integration of other supporting and cooperating organizations/agencies.

  • Agree upon staffing of primary (key Command & General Staff) positions based on the incident.
  • Identify supporting facilities and locations based on the complexity, size, and location of the incident

. Location of the Incident Command Post (ICP)

  • Location of Staging Area

. Location of the Joint Information Center (JIC) and other locations such as Bases, Camps, etc.

  • Identify operational period and work hours.
  • Issue delegation of authority to staff.

. Discuss release of information to media, the release of sensitive information process, classified information, including legal procedures on document control.

  • Discuss resource requesting/ordering process and cost sharing and accounting.
  • Discuss how you will handle operational security issues.
  • Determine IMT procedures/function.

. How command will function and division of duties.
