• Review common and leadership responsibilities.
• Obtain a briefing from the Finance Section Chief (FSC).
• Establish contact with the incident Safety Officer (SOFR) and subordinate team specialists (Health & Safety, Medical, Toxicology), Legal Officer, Public Information Officer (PIO), and any other specialists as the incident situation dictates.
• Determine the need for Compensation for Injury Unit Leader (INJR) and Claims Specialist (CLMS) and order personnel as needed.
• Establish a compensation for injury work area within or as close as possible to the Medical Unit.
• Review Form 206 Medical Plan.
• Ensure that INJR and CLMS have adequate workspace and supplies.
• Review and coordinate procedures for handling claims with the Procurement Unit Leader (PROC).
• Brief CLMS on incident activity.
• Periodically review logs and forms produced by the INJR and CLMS to ensure that they are complete, entries are timely and accurate, and that they are in compliance with agency requirements and policies.
• Ensure that all claims logs and forms are complete and routed to appropriate agency for post-incident processing prior to demobilization.
• Keep the FSC briefed on Compensation/Claims Unit status and activity.
• Obtain Demobilization Plan and ensure that compensation-for-Injury and Claims Specialist are adequately briefed on the Plan.
• Demobilize unit in accordance with the Incident Demobilization Plan.
• Maintain Form 214a Individual Log and forward to Documentation Unit Leader (DOCL) for disposition.
