Form 201 Incident Briefing

Purpose

  1. Provides incoming IC/UC with basic information regarding the incident situation and resources allotted to the incident and signals a transition from Incident Response to Incident Management.
  2. Form 201 functions as the summary of initial & planned actions for the response. Remains in use and continues to be developed (updated) until the response ends or the Planning Section generates the incident's first IAP.
  3. Facilitates documentation of the current situation, initial response objectives, current and planned actions, resources assigned and requested, on-scene organization structure and incident potential. The Form 201 is essential for future planning and effective management of emergency response activities.
  4. Suitable for briefing individuals newly assigned to Command & General Staff, as well as needed situation assessment briefings.

Critical Outcome

Brief the team using the Form 201, other forms as available, and Situation Display on the following:

  1. Where, when, what happened and how?.
  2. What is happening and what will happen?.
  3. Critical action items to support the field.
  4. Communicate clearly the incident potential and objectives for the current operational period.
