- Command Objectives Meeting - Meeting for the Incident Commander and/or Unified Command (IC/UC) to review, identify and prioritize the response objectives for the next operational period using the Form 202 Incident Objectives.
- Command & General Staff Briefing/Meeting - Meeting for the IC/UC to set the framework through which the incident will be managed, communicate objectives, assign tasks, provide direction, resolve problems and clarify staff roles and responsibilities.
- Prep for Tactics - Work period before the Tactics Meeting when OPS and Planning identify strategies and tactics to accomplish objectives using Form 234 Work Analysis Matrix and tactical resources needed using Form 215 Operational Planning Worksheet.
- Tactics Meeting - Meeting facilitated by the Planning Section Chief (PSC) to finalize the tactical response options for the next operational period, based on current response operations and objectives identified by the IC/UC for the next operational period.
- Prep for Planning (Draft IAP Preparation) - Work period before the Planning Meeting when each section prepares its components of the IAP, including tactical work assignments via the Form 204 Assignment List(s) for the next operational period.

1800 6. Planning Meeting - Meeting facilitated by the PSC to (1) present finalized strategies, hrs tactics, and resource requirements for the next operational period to the IC/UC using either the Form 215 Operational Planning Worksheet or Form 234 Work Analysis Matrix, & (2) gain verbal approval from IC/UC on the tactical plan as presented during the meeting.
- Incident Action Plan Preparation & Approval - Work period following the Planning Meeting, coordinated by the PSC, to prepare and assemble the IAP for the next operational period. Once assembled, the IAP is submitted to the IC/UC for approval and signatures. After approval, copies are made to distribute in the Operations Briefing.
- Operations Briefing - Facilitated by the PSC and select management team members to brief the oncoming response team on the approved IAP. Often repeated at shift change.
- Implement New IAP & Assess Progress - The Operations Section implements the IAP. The IAP is evaluated and adjusted for the next operational period based on progress.
