• Review common and leadership responsibilities.
• Receive briefing from Operations Section Chief/Deputy (OSC/DOSC), On-Scene Commander (OC), Operations Branch Director (OPBD), Division/Group Supervisor (DIVS), or person you are relieving.
• Determine need for additional staff, organize, brief & assign assistants.
• Review weather and environmental conditions for assignment area.
• Review assignments with subordinates and assign tasks.
• Monitor work progress and make changes when necessary.
• Keep supervisor informed of progress and changes.
• Report hazardous situations, special occurrences, or significant events (e.g. accidents, mishaps, sickness, and discovery of unanticipated issues) to immediate supervisor and/or Safety Officer (SOFR).
• Work with Field Observer (FOBS) and the Situation Unit Leader (SITL) to ensure field tactics and information gets into the Common Operating Picture (COP), if applicable.
• Coordinate activities with adjacent task forces, strike teams, and single resources.
• Travel to and from active assignment area with assigned resources.
• Retain control of assigned resources while in available or out-of-service status.
• Submit situation and resource status information through chain of command to the DIVS/OPBD/OSC/DOSC as appropriate.
• Debrief as directed at the end of each shift.
• Maintain Form 214a Individual Log and forward to Documentation Unit Leader (DOCL) for disposition.
